Burnaby FC welcomes Katie Allen as a guest presenter. Katie is a Registered Physiotherapist and Assistant Clinic Director at Strive Health and Performance. Born and raised in the Okanagan, she was an avid soccer player until the age of 16 when she was sidelined by an ACL injury. Though challenging, this experience helped her appreciate the value of proper injury prevention and rehabilitation, which ultimately led her to pursue a career in physical therapy. After completing a Diploma in Kinesiology and a Bachelor of Human Kinetics, she received her Masters of Physical Therapy from UBC in 2017. She has been working in private practice orthopedics ever since and has a special interest in working with athletes.

The ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) is a major structure within the knee that, when injured, can result in significant time away from sport. This presentation will cover an introduction to ACL injuries and the proactive measures that can be taken for risk reduction.

While there will be information targeted toward the increased risk of ACL injuries that female athletes face, we feel there is valuable information for all members at Burnaby FC and are opening this opportunity to everyone.
