Before the formation of Burnaby FC, our predecessor clubs fostered a lineage of talented players who have since excelled in NCAA, U Sports, professional leagues, national teams, and MLS academy teams. The accomplishments of our former players have not only impacted the global soccer stage but laid the groundwork for Burnaby FC’s continued success in developing the next generation of players.

Christine Sinclair

The Burnaby native played youth soccer for Burnaby Girls Soccer Club and Cliff Avenue United FC. Sinclair led her youth teams to six league titles, five provincial titles, and two Top 5 national finishes. Sinclair was called into her first Team Canada training Camp at 16 years old and debuted with the senior national team at the 2000 Algarve Cup. Sinclair was later recruited to play for the University of Portland where she won two NCAA National Championships with the Pilots. Currently, Sinclair plays for the Portland Thorns in the NWSL. Sinclair’s illustrious career includes 1x Olympic Gold Medalist, 2x Olympic Bronze Medalist, 14x Canadian Player of the Year, and 2x Mac Hermann Trophy Winner. Sinclair is also the all-time leading goal scorer in international football for both men and women.

Julia Grosso

Grosso represented Mountain United FC in the BCSPL before being selected for the Vancouver Whitecaps Girls Elite Rex Program. Grosso has represented Canada at both youth and senior levels. In 2018, Grosso signed with the University of Texas-Austin. As a Longhorn, Grosso was named an All-American, All-Big 12 Conference First Team, Big 12 Conference Co-Freshman of the Year, and was listed on the MAC Hermann Trophy Preseason Watch List. Following the 2020-2021 NCAA COVID-19 season, Grosso represented Canada at the Tokyo Olympics and scored the decisive penalty to win Canada’s first gold in soccer. Currently, Grosso plays for Juventus in Serie A.
