Burnaby FC Performance Centre: The Standard of Excellence
The Burnaby FC Performance Centre (PC) is the specialized environment for the BFC Global Player. Operating within our Performance Stream, the PC provides a high-intensity, professional setting designed to bridge the gap between BFC and the next level. This is a standards-based program for dedicated players committed to mastering their craft.
VISION ➼ PERFORMANCE
Our vision is to cultivate highly adaptable, creative playmakers who possess the tactical intelligence and physical capacity to excel at the highest levels of the game. We are evolving the program to provide more than just team training as we seek to hone in on the individual through position-specific mastery and data-supported development
While the developmental focus is tailored to each level, incorporating football-specific actions in small-group environments to deliver a high standard ensures every player is prepared for their next step.
THE FOUNDATION ➼ POSITIVE MENTAL PERFORMANCE & CULTURE
While we maintain a sharp focus on the technical, tactical, and physical components of the game, we recognize that the Psychosocial corner is the most critical driver of success. At BFC, we understand that all four corners are deeply intertwined in every aspect of the program.
- Positive Sport Psychology: We integrate mental performance strategies to help players manage pressure, build resilience, and maintain a growth mindset.
- The BFC Culture: We foster a collective environment rooted in accountability, respect, and high-performance habits. We empower the individual to take ownership of their journey, ensuring they develop the character and social intelligence required for success both on and off the pitch.
COACHING EXCELLENCE ➼ THE BFC STANDARD
To maintain the highest level of delivery, the Performance Centre is staffed by our Performance Technical Leads, Senior Staff Coaches, and BCSPL Head Coaches.
- Accreditation: All staff hold a minimum of a Canada Soccer B-Diploma (or equivalent accreditation), or are actively enrolled in the B-Diploma program, ensuring our coaches meet the rigorous requirements of the Performance Level.
- Continuous Elevation: Under the leadership of our Head of Coaching, all PC staff undergo consistent, high-level Coach Development. This internal mentorship ensures our coaching standards consistently evolve to improve and elevate the program.
CORE PERFORMANCE PILLARS
CORE PERFORMANCE PILLARS:
IDP Positional Training (BCSPL 6:1 Ratio | Div 1 9:1 Ratio)
Our specialized IDP Positional Training focuses on the technical and tactical execution required for a player’s specific role. These sessions prioritize high-volume repetitions and individualized coaching interventions to ensure the direct implementation of each player’s Individual Development Plan (IDP).We provide the detailed feedback and environment necessary for players to refine their positional profile.
Sport Science & Baseline Testing
The program is fully periodized to manage player load and ensure peak performance. We conduct baseline physical testing to track and measure progress over the course of the season. All testing is conducted in a positive, supportive environment with the goal of enhancing team culture and togetherness.
Integrated Performance Analysis
We utilize Sci-Sports technology to provide objective feedback that accelerates player growth. This data-driven approach allows for precise adjustments to player development, helping athletes understand their impact on the match through visual and statistical evidence.
To ensure the best developmental fit for each level, the Performance Centre is delivered through two distinct models:
- BCSPL: The Fully Integrated Model
For our BCSPL players, the Performance Centre is a seamless component of their weekly schedule. This model mimics a professional academy cycle, focusing on tactical flexibility and peak match-readiness.
-
- The 11v11 Performance Match: A weekly inter-squad game (“Training within the Game”) designed to increase match minutes and provide “Live Coaching” interventions in a full-field setting.
- Bi-Weekly Video Analysis: Objective team and individual reviews conducted weekly.
- Individual Development Plans (IDP): Every player receives a comprehensive IDP that supports the implementation of their performance training sessions.
- Recruitment Support: Access to In-House Player + Parent Education Workshops delivered by experienced professionals, focusing on the recruitment process for Colleges and Universities (U SPORTS, NCAA).
- Division 1: The Stand-Alone Model
For our Division 1 players, the Performance Centre operates as a specialized, stand-alone program night. This allows players to step away from team-tactical pressures to focus exclusively on individual technical refinement.
-
- The Environment: High-intensity sessions dedicated to accelerating positional skills and ball mastery.
- Small-Group Training: Focused environments for mastering football-specific actions tailored towards position-specific training. These sessions focus on high-quality contact time and detailed instruction.
- Bi-Annual Video Analysis: Dedicated sessions focusing on tactical visualization and improving on-field decision-making, conducted twice per season.
- Periodical Sport Science Events: Dedicated blocks focused on tracking and measuring data, allowing players to visualize their physical progress and athletic development over the course of the season.
- Pathway Fluidity: Oversight by Senior Staff ensures high-performers are identified for BCSPL movement opportunities.
Participation in the Performance Centre is structured to align with our specific program streams:
- BCSPL Level: The Performance Centre is fully integrated into the program. All players are enrolled in the Performance Centre as part of their standard registration.
- Division 1 Level (U11 – U15): The Performance Centre is included as a core part of the player program and is integrated into registration.
- Division 1 Level (U16 – U17): Participation is an opt-in opportunity, allowing senior youth players to choose to add the Performance Centre to their development schedule as they wish.
