Burnaby FC Development Centre: Developing BFC’s “Global Player”
The Burnaby FC Development Centre is dedicated to developing the “BFC Global Player” through a technically-focused curriculum designed to nurture talent and foster a lifelong passion for soccer. Our innovative program emphasizes technical skill development at every stage of a player’s journey, from their first touches on the ball to advanced competitive play.

At the core of our mission is a commitment to supporting players as they progress through the soccer pathway. We believe that every player, regardless of age or skill level, deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. Our age-appropriate training programs provide tailored instruction that aligns with each athlete’s developmental needs, enabling them to build essential technical skills and grow their love for the game.
ASSESSMENT ➼ PROGRESSION
As part of the BFC framework, the Development Centre also plays a critical role in player assessment and progression. We provide ongoing feedback on individual development, including opportunities for potential placement in BFC’s High-Performance Program.

Our Development Centre is staffed by highly qualified, certified coaches who bring a wealth of experience, passion, and expertise to the field. Committed to excellence, our coaches offer individualized attention and mentorship, instilling technical skills and core values such as teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Foundations U8-U9 (2016 – 2017 born)
Our youngest age groups will be getting the highest number of touches possible.
Whether they are dribbling, evading or shooting, we want the players to work towards being very confident with the ball at their feet.
BFC coaches encourage players to play without fear and to be brave in all aspects of their game.
- Dribbling / Running With the Ball (Understanding how to love working with the ball)
- Turning / Evasion / Change of Pace (Confidence and bravery with the ball)
- 1v1 Attacking and Defending (The “what”, the “why”, and the “how” to succeed)
- Passing and Receiving Techniques (Using both feet equally, positive first touch)

Evolution U10-U12 (2013 – 2015 born)
This age group is considered the “Golden Age of Learning”.
For athletes at this stage, DC provides a mix of individual skill development and an introduction to sharing the ball.
Ultimately, working together to defend, possess and finish is the goal.
- Passing and Receiving Techniques (Using both feet equally, positive first touch)
- 1v1 Attacking and Defending (The “what”, the “why”, and the “how” to succeed)
- Small Group Defending (Working together as a pair, understanding the principles)
- Passing Patterns (Weight, technique, passing combinations)
- Finishing (Understanding techniques, power, angles and situations)

Progression U13-U15 (2010 – 2012 born)
For the older age groups DC emphasizes passing, attacking, defending and finishing as a pair, or small group.
Sessions still contain lots of individual touches and mastering the ball, but more time is spent working in pairs and small groups.

- Small Group Attacking / Defending (Understanding how to work in pairs / small groups)
