Burnaby FC Development Centre: Curriculum
Foundations U8-U9 (2017 – 2018 born)
Our youngest age groups will be getting the highest number of touches possible.
Whether they are dribbling, evading or shooting, we want the players to work towards being very confident with the ball at their feet.
BFC coaches encourage players to play without fear and to be brave in all aspects of their game.
- Dribbling / Running With the Ball (Understanding how to love working with the ball)
- Turning / Evasion / Change of Pace (Confidence and bravery with the ball)
- 1v1 Attacking and Defending (The “what”, the “why”, and the “how” to succeed)
- Passing and Receiving Techniques (Using both feet equally, positive first touch)
Evolution U10-U13 (2016 – 2013 born)
The Burnaby FC Development Centre is a 30‑week pathway across Fall, Winter, and Spring. Spring is the final 10 weeks, where players apply everything learned earlier in the year at higher speed and under more pressure.
Fall (Weeks 1–10): Builds core technical foundations – ball mastery, basic 1v1 attacking/defending, simple passing and finishing.
Winter (Weeks 11–20): Deepens decision making under pressure, using the same themes in tighter spaces and more game‑like practices.
Spring (Weeks 21–30): Acts as the integration and performance phase.
We use themes at an age‑appropriate level, linking individual skills with small‑group play so players can defend, combine, and finish as a unit.
Together, the three phases move players from learning the techniques, to refining them under pressure, to applying them in real game moments over a full 30‑week journey.

Progression U14-U16 (2012 – 2010 born)
For the Progression players, we follow themes dedicated to U14–15 ages, adding more tactical detail around unit defending, structured build‑up, and creating/finishing chances in small-sided situations.
Together, the three phases move players from learning the techniques, to refining them under pressure, to applying them in real game moments over a full 30‑week journey.
